Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 108.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Sunday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Parks Technician III will assist with work assignments, quality of work, training of new and current staff, and completing daily reports for the Beach Operations Division.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the management of the City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of ways, and beaches.

• Oversee multiple functions of Beach Maintenance and ensure that standards, in accordance with Parks Master Plan, are met.

• Implement technical knowledge and understanding of Beach Maintenance functions to Turtle Patrol regulations, sand management, sanitation practices, equipment functions and landscape practices.

• Oversee functions of sanitation services; Troubleshoot/report concerns with public restrooms, sanitize/restock supplies, and remove litter/large debris.

• Operate a zero-turn riding mower, standup mower, push mower, and tractors in different terrain/slopes.

• Operate and participate in the removal of seasonal accumulations of seaweed using Motor Graders, Front End Loaders, Dump Trucks, and/or city issued trucks.

• Excavate land using shovels, augers, backhoes; Install new/transplant plant life such as trees, shrubs and flowers.

• Remove graffiti using chemicals and pressure washer; paint walls, ceilings poles, playgrounds, meter boxes, accessories.

• Setup and take down special events to include portable chairs, tents, tables, podiums, banners signage, trash barrels, scaffolding and lifeguard stands.

• Supervise assigned work groups and schedule projects, train department policies and protocols to assigned staff.

• Create scope of work for minor projects, assist department leadership with goal creation, budget recommendations and expenditure estimates; Report all issues to Beach Operations supervisor.

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma/GED

• Minimum of five (5) years' experience, three (3) of which must be at a supervisory level or an associate degree or 2-year technical certification and three (3) years' experience, two (2)of which must be at a supervisory level.

• A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
