The USM Department of Engineering seeks applicants for the position of part-time instructor to teach courses in all areas of engineering, including but not limited to the following:

In general engineering, the areas of Introduction to Programming, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, and Engineering Ethics and Economics.

In electrical engineering, the areas of Circuits Theory, Electronics, Electric Machinery and Controls, Analog and Digital Signals, Communications and Electromagnetics.

In computer engineering, the areas of Digital Logic and Microprocessors, Computer Architecture and Organization, Embedded Systems, Introduction to Programming, C++ Algorithms and Data Structures, and Operating Systems.

In mechanical engineering, the areas of SolidWorks certification, Materials Science, Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Machine Design, and Vibrations.

In industrial engineering, the areas of Work Design, Facility Design, Human Factors and Ergonomics, Lean/Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, Systems Modeling, and Operations Research.

We are seeking student-focused instructors who will have full responsibility for course delivery and grading. Preference is given to candidates who are able to teach on-site in Gorham, Maine, but candidates who can only teach remotely online will be considered. The University of Southern Maine's Department of Engineering provides a solid and complete engineering education built upon the foundation of mathematics, science, and liberal arts.  Undergraduate programs are broadly based, with opportunities to specialize. Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or a related discipline, and demonstrate experience in the subject matter of the course(s) to be taught.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience and/or advanced degrees in those areas.
