Job Summary

The IU Center for Rural Engagement is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic student intern to join our team and support the community engagement efforts of the Healthy Hoosier Communities Liaison. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in rural community engagement, public health promotion, and research.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Assists with various tasks related to promoting public health, providing data support and assistance on ongoing health projects, conducting literature reviews, and creating health communications materials.
  • Conducts literature reviews on existing CRE community engaged health projects.
  • Assists in the organization and facilitation of community focus groups.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data from community members.
  • Contributes to the development of reports that guide Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNAs) and Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs).
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team across IU departments and rural community partners.
  • Summarizes key findings and identifies relevant research studies, reports, and publications.
  • Assists in maintaining internal CRE Community Engagement calendar.
  • Networks with other CRE staff and external health community partners and faculty.
  • Attends community partner meetings with the Healthy Hoosier Communities Liaison.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University pursing a degree in a Public Health, Public Policy, Social work or any health-related field
SKILLS

Required
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Interest in rural health disparities, community engagement, and research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
Preferred
  • Experience with basic research methods
Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role may be required to move up to 20 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

Bloomington, Indiana

This is a in-person position. However, to at the supervisors discretion This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs

Occasional travel to partner communities throughout the state may be required. Intern will have access to a vehicle through IU Fleet Services or can arrange transportation with the Healthy Hoosier Communities Liaison.

Work Hours

20 hours per week.

This position has flexible hours.
