POSITION SUMMARY:
Accountable for multiple scopes of service and capable of working in inpatient, outpatient, direct admits, and emergency room departments as needed with accuracy. Responsible for timely, accurate, and complete patient pre-admission/pre-registration. Verifies patient demographic, insurance coverage, and billing information. Obtains any necessary referrals, authorizations or pre-certifications for scheduled procedures. Confirms medical necessity requirements are met for services. Provides patient financial counseling regarding insurance benefits, financial responsibility, establishing payment agreements, and delivers self-pay quotes. Communicates with physician offices to re-direct services as necessary. Assists with timely, accurate, and complete patient admission/registration. Registers patients appropriately. Provides timely notification to the appropriate department of patient arrivals. Collects and posts patient payments. Maintains scheduling fax.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
*High School Diploma or equivalent.

*Minimum three years registration, and medical insurance verification experience required.

*Knowledge of surgical and diagnostic procedures and medical terminology preferred.

*Experience in customer service environment.

*Ability to prioritize work.

*Must be able to communicate effectively with patient, staff and all customers and pay attention to details and problem solving both verbally and written.

*Able to operate common computer software systems, utilizing both hospital and business software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Functions as a role model for the department ensuring daily processes are complete.
*Serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to department staff providing answers to questions.
*Maintains scheduling fax requests ensuring all items are appropriately identified and addressed within established time frames.
*Processes pre-admission requests and initiates patient registration in a timely and efficient manner
*Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits with accurate identification of patient co-pays, deductibles, and out of pocket expenses.
*Obtains any required referrals, authorizations or pre-certifications prior to services being rendered.
*Identifies problematic payers or limited benefits and works with physician offices to re-direct services.
*Ensures medical necessity requirements are met for scheduled services.
*Contacts patients regarding out of pocket expenses, claims processing and hospital billing procedures and establishes payment agreements. Delivers self-pay estimates.
*Cooperates with others to meet department requirements and goals.
*Completes timely patient admission/registration ensuring required billing and demographic information is complete and accurate.
*Notifies appropriate department and/or personnel of patient arrivals in a timely manner.
*Ensures patient admission forms are complete and accurate with all required signatures.
*Assigns correct admission source, patient type, and hospital service codes.
*Performs accurate patient payment collection posting and reconciliation.
*Provides patient with Medical Records ROI form to facilitate continuity of care with personal physician(s).
*Facilitates distribution and collection of Emergency Department patient satisfaction surveys.
*Collects patient co-pay and/or minimum down payment/deposit towards balance due at time of service.
