The Opportunity: Patient Care Associate | Yawkey 8 - HEMOC Infusion Unit

At Massachusetts General Hospital, the Infusion Unit is dedicated to delivering exceptional care to patients with a wide range of oncological conditions in a safe, comfortable, and compassionate environment. Our highly skilled nursing staff, including on-site Nurse Practitioners, have extensive experience in administering cutting-edge infusion therapies for a wide range of complex conditions. Our team collaborates closely with referring providers from clinical specialties across Mass General. Yawkey Infusion patients receive consistent care throughout their treatment visits. All appointments are characterized by a commitment to the highest standards of quality, safety, and training

Yawkey 8 Infusion Unit is a sixty-bed/chair infusion unit in the Division of Hematology-Oncology. There are eighteen beds and forty-two chairs.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 8 PM and Saturday from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Why This Role Is Important?

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) will assist the RNs in the Infusion Unit with a variety of functions including phlebotomy and EKGs, transporting patients, checking rooms and equipment, assisting patients with dressing and feeding, and some clerical functions. Our Patient Care Associate team prides themselves in responding to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner.

  • To be eligible for a transfer/promotion/demotion, the employee will have completed six (6) months of service in his/her present position. Employees, who would like to transfer to another position or department, prior to completing six (6) months of service, may do so with the approval of the department head.

  • Effective customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using a combination of strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport patients, using the appropriate physical technique, in a safe manner for the patient and self.


Preferred: Must have recent experience, and/or training, in clinical patient care.

Required: Licensed, certified or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited program, at the time of hire, OR Candidate enrolled in a Nursing program with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed at time of hire, Pre-Med or PA undergraduate program.
