JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
The Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the system-wide patient safety improvement and management program. Using data and monitoring efforts, proactively leads the organization through risk mitigation efforts aimed at reducing medical errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes. In addition, leads the organizational response to adverse outcomes, sentinel events, and other reviewable/reportable patient care events. Leads performance improvement efforts to enhance patient safety and clinical outcomes. Supports the continuous readiness efforts and accreditation survey preparation, onsite activities, and post- survey efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Baccalaureate degree in public health, epidemiology, or other health care related field; or an Associate Degree in nursing along with a Bachelor's Degree.
• One - two years of experience in quality, risk and patient safety principles
• Knowledge of the current Joint Commission standards, performance improvement and survey process
• Excellent teaching, consultative and interpersonal skills
• Clear understanding of the timeliness of the organization reporting reportable events to regulatory bodies
• Superior organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
• Self-motivated, strong oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge and experience with use of computer and related software programs
• Good leadership skills, problem solving ability and must maintain and direct confidential issues as appropriate
• Demonstrated experience with data collection, data analysis and data reporting
