Patient Service Coordinator Position Summary:

The Patient Services Coordinator IV is responsible for training, leading, motivating team members and assisting management by serving in the "lead" role and functioning as a group/team mentor and resource liaison.

Patient Service Coordinator Key Accountabilities:
  • Manage complex multi-payer insurance verification and benefits eligibility procedures, obtaining and completing documentation for pre-certification and referral/authorizations, assessing patient financial liability and scheduling, registering and billing patients.
  • Clear understanding of the revenue cycle and professional competence in reviewing and securing all appropriate financial resources for patients to maximize reimbursement to the Health System.
  • Serve as a team member of the receivable processing unit, this position also requires operating knowledge of payer contracts and computer systems at affiliate locations.
  • Highly proficient with insurance verification/benefits eligibility procedures and have extensive knowledge of pre-certification and claims processing.

Work Hours: FT, Day shift, 40 hrs/wk, wknd work required

Work Location: Columbia, MD

Patient Service Representative Qualifications:
  • A.A. degree or equivalent required. B.A. degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience in medical office, hospital, medical call center or similar customer service environment.
  • Extensive medical insurance processing, admissions and/or insurance experience required.
  • Familiar with multiple payer's insurance verification and pre-certification guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of payer's billing and collection practices.
