Certified peer support specialist, with experience and passion for caring for those with severe mental illness, to provide supportive services to clients working on individual treatment goals at EPIC-NOLA.   A peer-support specialist is a person in recovery from a behavioral health condition (mental health, substance use, or co-occurring). While the peer support specialist must have lived experience with a behavioral health diagnosis, the peer support specialist is not required to disclose their specific diagnosis or share treatment records as part of the job description. To maintain patient confidentiality, prevent role ambiguity, and avoid conflicts of interest, individuals who are currently receiving treatment at the clinic are not eligible for the role.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of first-episode psychosis interventions
  • Ability to provide support, education and encouragement to clients and family members surrounding psychosis
  • Ability to work with clients to establish and meet goals with a strengths-based approach and Knowledge of Social Cognition Interaction Training, as well as other first-episode psychosis treatment curriculums
  • Ability to provide case management services to clients and their family members
  • Ability to communicate effectively with treatment team/providers
  • Ability to work with the treatment team to establish a plan of care
  • Ability to complete required documentation for client visits including progress notes
  • Ability to use personal recovery as a tool to support others
  • Ability to serve as an example of recovery & role modeling
  • Ability to bridge the gap between the community and treatment options
  • Ability to set up regular check-ins with clients to help encourage clients toward recovery goals
  • Peer support experience in a clinical mental health setting
  • Peer support specialist certification
  • Peer support training
  • Reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in the mental health evaluation of adolescents and young adults
  • Experience with psychotic disorders
  • Interest in research
