Job Summary

Manages daily operational activities, priorities, problems, staffing and workloads. Provides status reports to pharmacy management effectively communicating issues, concerns, and suggestions. Monitors pharmacy information systems and communicates with IR regarding problems, resolutions, and improvements. Processes formulary additions to pharmacy information systems. Assists with charge audits upon request, monitors timeliness of charges and credits and verifies accuracy . Oncology or Investigational Drug Service experience preferred. Responsible for operational oversight to support the IDS and infusion team in clinical research at SCCC sites, including the study start up, medication distribution and operational plans, oversee research drug inventory and accountability per regulatory standards, internal audit preparation, facilitate Infusion and IDS pharmacist collaboration, etc. ASHP accredited pharmacy residency preferred or equivalent specialty experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Requires travel to UT Southwestern SCCC regional sites as necessary.

Experience and Education
  • BS degree or PharmD from ACPE accredited school of pharmacy and three (3) years pharmacy experience, hospital practice setting preferred
  • Licensed by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required by start date
Job Duties
  1. Maintains and enforces organizational and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement initiatives, environmental and infection control standards.
  2. Identifies opportunities for cost containment and promotes cost effective utilization of resources. Assists with budget preparation and daily financial activity.
  3. Promotes pharmacy services. Assists with coordination of organizational and patient care initiatives. Attends multi-disciplinary in-services, meetings, PI, etc.
  4. Enforces Pharmacy and Therapeutic and cost savings initiatives through monitoring of documented interventions and pharmacist order entry. Verifies data, develops measures, and reports outcomes.
  5. Mentors staff in good decision-making skills, and problem identification and resolution processes. Promotes staff ownership of work environment encouraging process improvement actions.
  6. Supports cost savings initiatives. Participates in assessment and selection of cost-effective pharmaceuticals. Enforces formulary system and protocols for acquisition of NF product.
  7. Maintains high visibility and/or availability through participation in departmental in-services, meetings, and daily activities. Contributes ideas and identifies opportunities for process improvements to better deliver prompt and safe patient care.
  8. Interviews, selects, and hires qualified candidates. Evaluates employee performance. Completes annual appraisals and provides documentation of commendations or disciplinary actions.
  9. Coordinates staff development and education. Orients new employees, coordinates training, establishes expectation and documents progress. Enhances personal growth, development, and management skills by review of current literature, participating in continuing educational programs, in-services, and meetings.
  10. Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records .

Working Conditions

Work is performed in any UT Southwestern Pharmacy or campus building.
