The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a certified Pharmacy Technician Lead to embark on a rewarding healthcare career! Under the general direction of the pharmacist in charge, the Lead Pharmacy Technician performs processes required for preparing consumer's prescriptions according to the rules and regulations of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy for both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy functions as well as performing the duties and tasks associated with the Pyxis Med station and/or assisting customers in the enrollment to Patient Assistance Programs. As an essential employee this position is expected to workdays, evenings, weekends, Holidays and expected to report to work to maintain NPC Pharmacy during emergent situations.

Your Role in Action:

Responsible for Lead Pharmacy Technician duties in the Pharmacy which will include, but are not limited to:
  • Preparing prescriptions
  • Pre-packing of supplies, generating reports, & maintaining appropriate inventory levels
  • Conducts monthly unit inspections where medications are dispensed, stored, and administered. Identifies and retrieves outdated supplies.
  • Performs duties and tasks associated with the Pyxis Med Station.
  • Assists patients with Prescribing to Patients Assistance Programs to acquire "free medication" where applicable and appropriate for the patient.
  • Order pharmaceuticals and supplies in a manner that optimizes cost and contract compliance.
  • Compliant with agency educational and licensure requirements.


Supervisory Duties as follows:
  • Scheduling of Technicians and handle Technician staffing issues while keeping the PIC abreast of issues
  • Works with the PIC and Pharmacy Technician Trainer to develop and implement the CPEP Pharmacy Duty Roster as well as monitor monthly compliance with the Duty Roster
  • Trains new Technicians or clinic Technicians that want to work at CPEP with Agency training tool developed specifically for the CPEP Pharmacy.
  • Assists the PIC in training Float and PRN Relief Pharmacists to CPEP specific Processes.
  • In the absence of the PIC this position provides support to the operation and resolving of issues to nursing pertaining to Pyxis
  • Any other special projects as assigned or agreed upon by PIC or Director.

Specific to CPEP:
  • Enters patient information accurately into Pharmacy Computer system.
  • Enters correct medication information, including medication, strength & route.

In-patient:
  • Remains knowledgeable of CPEP formulary to answer questions from physicians, nurses as to what medications available & strengths
  • Prepares unit of use when possible
  • Pyxis MEd station responsibilities:
  • Pulling correct unit dose medications
  • Filling medications correct into unit of use bins.
  • Reconcile dispensed/ordered medication report
  • Performs monthly nursing unit inspections: PES/CSU/CRU/PH-CRU

What qualifications you will need:

Education:
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years related experience required working in a pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • Retail pharmacy exposure required
  • 3 years hospital exposure preferred
  • Proficient Pyxis MEd Station experience required and Pharmacy Assistance Program knowledge.

Other Key Qualifications:
  • Valid Texas Driver's License required.
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician License through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • The person must have well-developed interpersonal, organizational skills, be a team player with a desire to provide quality work. Possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be computer literate and able to use software effectively. Should also demonstrate a proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to effectively converse and listen to others and construct clear and concise written communication.
  • Ability to identify and offer solutions to resolve problems, using knowledge of the organization to identify helpful resources.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to utilize basic Word and Excel documents.

  • Act consistent with all legal requirements relating to pharmacy technician practice, including Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Refrain from any behavior that violates legal or professional ethical standards, including all criminal laws, Federal laws and agency regulations, and State laws and regulatory agency rules.
  • Refrain from conduct that is threatening, intimidating, harassing, or deceptive when acting within a professional role.
  • Maintain good standing with all applicable governmental or quasi-governmental agencies governing pharmacy technician practice.
