PHENND Fellows-Student and Family Engagement Coordinator
Youth Empowerment Services - YESPhilly is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency whose mission is to develop a broad base of opportunities for Philadelphia's out-of-school youth to prepare them to become successful, self-sufficient adults. Since its inception, YESPhilly Accelerated High School has provided opportunities to over 200 high school drop-outs per year. We have developed an educational model that prepares students for college and careers by tying together personal development, media arts and technology skills, and academic instruction to meet Pennsylvania standards for high school.
Member Duties : The goal for the project is to improve student and family engagement within the YESPhilly community. The VISTA will establish and directly manage a continuous calendar of activities, cultural events, and workshops for the benefit of the YESPhilly community. Our community includes our students who have dropped out of school, their families, and local residents, about 90% of whom are in high poverty households that often lack access to information, resources, and opportunities to help them out of poverty. The VISTA will address their needs by recruiting individuals and organizations from throughout the city who can deliver these resources and provide opportunities for our students to demonstrate their skills and develop a vision for their future. The VISTA will also manage the School Advisory Council and organize members of the YESPhilly community to participate in monthly meetings that develop, manage, and evaluate a sustainable calendar of activities and workshops.
