Phlebotomist PRN

Description
The primary responsibility of the phlebotomist is to obtain urine and blood samples competently and expediently by venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick. The phlebotomist has an understanding of the computer system and the capability to monitor sample statuses; inputs and retrieves information from the various systems necessary to perform their job and maintain workflow within the laboratory.
Essential Functions
Duties include specimen processing, order entry, drug screen collections, assistance to technical staff, maintenance of work areas and supplies. Other tasks as assigned by the laboratory manager.
Organizational Expectations
Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds and reporting of unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of whether there is harm.
Provide effective mentoring
Be loyal to the absent
Always manage up
Consistent use of AIDET & 5 P's
Uphold the facilities Standards of Performance.
Qualifications
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psycho/social, education, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required SkillsLicenses: Certification recommended, but not required
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) may be obtained within week of patient care after orientation.
