SECONDARY CLASSROOM TEACHER/COACH - PHYSICAL EDUCATION
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythm and dance, and individual, dual and team sports to secondary pupils, utilizing appropriate learning activities.
-Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balance physical education program, adapting daily schedule to accommodate weather conditions and to provide time for changing clothes, showers, instruction, exercise, and sports activities.
-Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement; provides time for drills of the basic skills; and organizes lesson plans for the whole class, utilizing available area.
-Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
-May teach one or more classes of adaptive physical education for students with orthopedic and/or medical problems, if credentialed to do so. May teach one or more classes in interscholastic athletics or drill team.
-Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the overall safety of pupils.
-Maintains surveillance over storage and use of such items as school-owned uniforms, towels, lockers, equipment, and supplies to prevent loss and abuse, working through student monitors or locker room attendants where appropriate.
-Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas.
-Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical fitness, and in physical skills and knowledge. Assesses each individual's contribution to the performance of the group in team sports. Prepares progress reports.
-Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment, instructional aids, and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records.
-Cooperates with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for Open House, Parent-Faculty Club meeting, rallies, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events.
-Develops weekly lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and curriculum of the District.
-Provides students with the opportunity to partake in daily patriotic observance. Education Code 52720.
-Monitors classroom environment to ensure clean and safe conditions exist, notifying principal of any unclean or unsafe classroom conditions.
-Monitors classroom activities making students responsible for putting materials, supplies, tools, etc., safely and neatly away at the end of the class session.
*Coaches one or more after school California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) sanctioned sport(s).
*The site principal may supersede (P) by assigning a Physical Education teacher/coach to a co-curricular assignment in lieu of a coaching position. The site principal must submit this proposal in writing to the personnel involved.
Effective September 1, 1987, all teachers of Physical Education will possess certification in first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The District will provide opportunity for certification of the employee.

-Valid California Single Subject Credential authorizing service in Physical Education
-English Learner Authorization
