JOB SUMMARY
(Describe below the primary purpose and function of this job)
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. The PA III performs additional leadership and project responsibilities in the team/department.
Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)
Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting
Performs complete histories and physical examination
Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic test
Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination finding
Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedure
Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summarie
Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
Physician Assistant IIIs will also perform additional duties, including but not limited to: precepts a medium sized group of student learners; acts as a clinical resource in their division; creates and implements new clinical programs in division, prepares QI analyses and presents findings to department/organizational committee, and/or completes research outside of clinical role; presents at least 2 times/year at department meetings/specialty conferences/grand rounds/M&M
