Position Summary

Southwest Medical Imaging Ltd. (SMIL) is seeking an enthusiastic Physician Assistant to work in the Interventional Radiology section, currently consisting of eight IR Physicians and three PAs. This hospital-based position is highly procedurally oriented and includes performing biopsies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and placement of a variety of central venous access from the simple through the more advanced. As experience is gained there is room for expanding the scope of procedures performed. Duties also include the pre- and post-procedural evaluation of interventional radiology patients. There is no outpatient clinic responsibility.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primary role is to be physician extender/substitute for minor procedures
  • Assist in the performance of direct patient care services, including inpatient consults and inpatient rounding
  • Perform physical examinations, determine medical histories, diagnose and treat illness and/or injuries
  • Order and interpret laboratory and radiographic studies
  • Perform history and physical examinations of interventional radiology patience
  • Field phone calls from patients, referring physicians, nurse, and other health care professionals regarding patients to identify potential areas of concern in the medical management of the patients
  • Educate patients on their medical care
  • Other duties as assigned


DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Current license and certificate of authority to practice as a PA in the state of Arizona is required

• Applicants with prior surgical or emergency department experience are preferred

• Must be a graduate of an ARC accredited PA program, have an active DEA license and Arizona state license, and BLS/ACLS certification

• PALS certification required

• Interventional Radiology or comparable invasive (i.e. vascular surgery/EM) procedure experience preferred
