Essential Job Functions: Responsible for the inspection, cleaning, servicing, repair and proper mechanical operation of a wide range of equipment, controls and physical facilities used in a wastewater lift station operation, including major and minor repair work to pumps, motors, electrical controls, and other mechanical equipment, as well as buildings and fixtures; utilizes a wide range of equipment including small hand and power tools, welding machines, acetylene/oxygen cutting machines, drill presses, air compressors, sandblasters, paint sprayers, etc.; prepares required reports and maintenance records; may participate with crews involved in various activities of sewer maintenance operations; prepares and maintains records and reports as requested.

Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as required.

Works Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; subject to 24-hour callout and overtime when necessary. Required to work in all types of weather and confined spaces; constantly exposed to wastewater and sludge in various stages of treatment, high voltage electricity, noise, hazardous chemicals and gases; may be subject to physical/verbal abuse from irate customers; subject to strains, cuts and bruises in performance of duties.

Knowledge: Basic knowledge of equipment mechanics, various inside machine shop equipment and the common tools of the trade; familiarity with electrical principles, motors and controls, and pump principles; knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques involved in water and sewer line installation, repair and maintenance; some knowledge of municipal policies and procedures; knowledge of general safety and supervisory procedures and techniques.

Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to facilitate the accurate exchange of information and instruction with the general foreman and co-workers; ability to work from sketches, blueprints, maintenance manuals, equipment specifications and verbal instructions to trouble shoot problems and effect the necessary repairs in an efficient and safe manner; highly skilled in the proper use of hand tools and small power tools and moderate skills in the proper use of other equipment such as air compressors, welding and cutting equipment, drill presses, sandblasters, etc.; skilled in the operation, installation, repair and maintenance of water and sewer systems and related equipment; ability to plan, assign, and supervise the activities of work crews; ability to interact effectively with other employees and the public; must have excellent eye-hand coordination to facilitate the effective and safe use of hand tools in a multitude of awkward positions and confining spaces.

Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently drives vehicle and equipment, writes by hand, stands, walks, crawls, squats, stoops, bends, kneels, twist body, climbs, pushes, pulls, and lifts objects weighing up to 100 lbs.

Education/Experience: High school graduation or equivalent; some formal vocational training in mechanics, welding, electrical motor or pump repair or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation of pump and motor equipment preferred; maintenance work experience which includes repair work on electrical motors, controls and pumps; graduation from a vocational school, licensing in, or other recognized training certificate in one of the above mentioned fields may be substituted for all or part of work experience.

Other: Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record (Class B/CDL driver's license preferred). Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Must obtain a Class A/CDL driver's license within one (1) year of employment. Must acquire a Class I Wastewater Collections License within one (1) year of employment. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
