Tampa General Hospital is home to one of the busiest transplant programs in both the state of Florida and the nation. The transplant unit has 48 private rooms dedicated to organ transplant and post intensive care ventricular assist device (VAD) patients. The nursing team works closely with the Tampa General Medical Group (TGMG) delivering exceptional care using a multidisciplinary approach. This is a unit of elite class, highly trained, and qualified nurses where miracles happen every day.
Job Summary
The senior transplant coordinator (STC) or senior mechanical circulatory support coordinator (SMCSC) is the team leader of the designated transplant or ventricular assist program. The Senior Transplant Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the coordination of the clinical aspects of transplant patient and living donor care permissible within their license and acting as a liaison between a kidney transplant program and dialysis facilities, as applicable. Responsibilities include collaborating with health care team to develop theory-based patient care for those patients undergoing solid organ transplantation (heart, liver, lung, kidney, pancreas or combination organs) or ventricular assist implantation from candidate selection through long-term post surgical follow-up. The STC/ SMCSC exercises independent judgment and advanced clinical skills to provide nursing care to these specified patient populations. The STC/ SMCSC collaborates and participates with management to maintain unit operations. Assists the Director, AHC and Transplant Programs with interviews and makes recommendation for hiring new personnel, assigns work to and evaluates work performance of employees supervised. Collaborates and participates with department director to maintain high quality, cost effective unit operations. The STC/ SMCSC is also responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Qualifications
Required Skills
Current RN license from the State of Florida and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, minimum of four years of solid organ transplant or mechanical circulatory support experience as a clinical coordinator. Minimum of 2 years of critical care experience preferred. Required to sit for the CPTC (Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator), CCTC (Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator), or (CHFN) Certified Heart Failure Nurse exam within 2 years of hire and pass within 3 years of hire.
