The Opportunity

The Portfolio & Governance Analyst role will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing MRSI's portfolio processes, and ensuring proper governance and development of best practices for the portfolio framework. This involves monitoring portfolio performance, working with colleagues to help develop content required by the framework and ensuring, adherence to governance processes. Additionally, this role will be responsible for developing and generating reports and presenting findings to Head of Portfolio and stakeholders at all levels. This role must work closely with counterparts in IT, Transformation/Engagement teams to coordinate MRSI Portfolio updates and govern the Portfolio Framework. This role reports to the Head of Portfolio Management.

Key Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

Portfolio Analysis & Governance
  • Responsible for the implementation and adherence to a governance process for the Portfolio Framework and build best practices in collaboration with IT PMO colleagues.
  • Drives continuous improvements to enhance portfolio management processes, tools and methodologies to increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Evaluates the portfolio to identify opportunities to consolidate, discontinue or optimize portfolio initiatives to maximize ROI and strategic impact.
  • Gathers and maintains all necessary documentation on Opportunities/Projects/Programs for Portfolio review. In addition, training and supporting users across MRSI on content creation.
  • Gathers Portfolio items/project related data and information in support of the Portfolio Manager and provide suggestions on action items.
  • Maintains and develops templates for Portfolio artifacts for the Pre-Project phases. Assist business functions in using templates and building content.
  • Responsible for portfolio governance services including financial updates and reporting in coordination with IT PMO.
  • Developed, implemented and champions adherence to standards e.g. Portfolio Framework and input documentation.

Resource Management
  • Builds and implements a Business Resource Management methodology to assist in prioritizing activities at various stages in the Portfolio.
  • Collaborates with team leads and IT to optimize resource allocation across initiatives, ensuring efficient utilization and alignment with organizational priorities.

Management, Reporting and Communication:
  • Manages, develops and administers portfolio items (Excel, SharePoint, MS PowerApps, Power BI and other portfolio management software) and any publication of portfolio, where applicable.
  • Responsible for a combination of designing, producing and ongoing improvement of relevant and insightful MI on Portfolio performance and trends which can be used for operational and SteerCo purposes.
  • Manages the Portfolio calendar to ensure timely preparation and distribution of meeting packs according to Portfolio Governance
  • Communicates portfolio status, performance and recommendations through presentations, reports and meetings when appropriate.
  • This role will help build resource management capabilities and move items through the framework which will help give transparency in dollar and resource usage across MRSI.


Job Requirements:
  • 3+ years' experience in project or portfolio management teams, project coordination or related roles.
  • 3+ years' experience in commercial insurance; ability to demonstrate knowledge of insurance products and capabilities.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data, identify trends and make recommendations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and influence colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  • High degree of organization, individual initiative, personal accountability and comfort in working in a high paced environment.
  • Proactive, self-starter with excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Proficiency in MS tool suite (Office, Power BI, Power Apps) and project management tools.
  • Knowledge of portfolio management frameworks and best practices.
  • Experience in lean process improvement initiatives and/or resource management, a plus.
  • Understanding of insurance products, processes / workflows a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree required


This tole is based in New York, New York. The salary range posted below applies to the Company's NYC location.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $91,800 - $134,600 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in NYC. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
