Description of Work
The Quantum Photonics and Phononics Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( UNL ) is seeking one postdoctoral researcher in the broad fields of Quantum Photonics. The Quantum Photonics and Phononics (QPhoxonics) Lab is led by Dr. Yanan (Laura) Wang, affiliated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and devoted to cutting-edge research in quantum information science and technology ( QIST ). This postdoctoral position will be associated with multidisciplinary research projects that focus on innovating and engineering material platforms (such as wide-bandgap semiconductors and two-dimensional materials) and device systems (such as single photon emitters and optomechanical resonators) to develop novel quantum operation units (qubits), sensing, computing and communication protocols. The postdoc will have opportunities to contribute to UNL's collaborative research programs, notably the EPSCoR Center on Emergent Quantum Materials and Technologies ( EQUATE ), and be involved with external collaborators, federal agencies, and industry partners to develop new research efforts in Quantum Photonics. The postdoc is expected to be highly motivated and play an active leadership role in the Qphoxonics Lab. The position is renewable each year based on performance and availability of continued funding.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent research on Quantum Photonics and explore the light-matter interactions in novel material platforms.
  • Design, develop, and manage the operation and maintenance of optical characterization systems (including photoluminescence and Raman spectrometers, time-resolved and pump-probe systems, and single-photon characterization systems).
  • Supervise student research assistants on a day-to-day basis and interface with collaborators.
  • Collaborate with research groups led by faculty from many different disciplines, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, and physics.
  • Participate in the preparation and writing of journal manuscripts and conference papers, presentations, and/or posters; manuscript/proposal review; and proposal writing.
  • Organize and prepare reports for sponsors and present progress updates to sponsors.
