Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Department of Biosystems Engineering & Soil Science (UTIA)

AREA OF RESEARCH: Coupled Carbon-Nitrogen-Manganese Cycling in Cropland

JOB DESCRIPTION: The postdoc will study the role of manganese in soil organic carbon stabilization and destabilization processes and carbon-nitrogen interactions. The research will involve extensive field and lab experiments, including stable carbon experiments, statistical data analysis, review/meta-analysis, report and scientific article preparation, and presentation of research findings at professional meetings. The selected candidate will be provided with the opportunity to collaborate with researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Soil Ecology, Soil Microbiology, Soil Geochemistry, or closely related fields. Candidates expected to graduate in Fall 2024 are also encouraged to apply. Demonstrated experience with soil biogeochemical processes is required. Strong oral and written communication skills, an excellent work ethic, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, an interest in training undergraduate and graduate students, demonstrated skills in analytical instrumentation, and a valid driver's license are also required.

LOCATION: Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science (BESS), University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN. Drs. Sindhu Jagadamma

(Jagadamma Lab) in BESS and Elizabeth Herndon (Herndon Profile) at ORNL will supervise the postdoc.
