What You Will Do
The High Explosives Science and Technology group (Q-5) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a motivated analytical chemist to analyze perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS are substances that are toxic to both people and the environment, and this project aims to characterize and identify previous and/or current use of PFAS at LANL. This analysis will include method development, optimization, and validation with the use of GC-MS and LC-MS instrumentation. Therefore, knowledge and previous use of these instruments will be valuable. The candidate will apply the developed methodology to analyze PFAS within plastic bonded explosives.

Education: Candidates must have received a Ph.D in chemistry within the last five years or will have completed all degree requirements by the commencement of the appointment.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Salary : Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $92,000. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience in gas chromatography and/or liquid chromatography preferable with mass spectrometry.
- Demonstration of a strong background in analytical chemistry.
- Written and oral communication skills as shown by a publication and/or presentation record.
- Chemometric experience (e.g., Matlab, Python, R, C++).
- An ability to work in a diverse and dynamic team environment.
- Attention to detail and safety and willingness to work with hazardous materials
