Dr. Jonee Wilson is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to collaborate on two NSF-funded projects that focus on equity and access in mathematics instruction. We seek a collaborator with training and experience in qualitative and/or mixed methods, with an interest in equity in STEM education.

The Validation of the Equity and Access Rubrics for Mathematics Instruction (VEAR-MI) project is a four-year study with the main goal of validating the EAR-MI (Equity and Access Rubrics for Mathematics Instruction), a new measure developed to capture practices aimed to support marginalized students in gaining access and more equitably participating in rigorous mathematical activity in elementary and middle-school classrooms.

The Honoring Equity and Access in Mathematics Instruction (HEAR-MI) project is a four-year study that aims to support instructional coaches & math teachers in enacting more equitable mathematics instruction through the use of EAR-MI rubric based coaching cycles grounded in video recordings of classroom instruction. This position is an annual re-appointment. Continuation of employment is contingent upon continuation of grant funding and successful job performance.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Engage in educational research related to equity in STEM education
  • Become lead author on two or more peer-reviewed papers, co-author on additional work
  • Participate in qualitative data collection tasks, including conducting interviews
  • Contributing to and supporting work with study participants (e.g., supporting project managers in recruiting and training instructional coaches for the HEAR-MI project)
  • Contribute and support development of annual progress reports for NSF
  • Assist with data cleaning and organization leading up to analysis
  • Lead qualitative data analysis tasks, including thematic analysis, qualitative coding of data (e.g. interview and video data), literature reviews, etc.
  • Complete annual review, planning and goal-setting tasks with Dr. Wilson toward the goal of developing a career in education, educational research or academia
Minimum Requirements

Education: Doctoral degree

Preferred Requirements

Education: A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education, Educational Psychology, Human Development, or a relevant social science discipline.
Experience: Experience with research regarding issues of equity in K-12 education. A strong grasp of the context of math education or education in efforts to support the interpretation of study findings (i.e., determine conceptual/theoretical meaning behind relationships in the data).

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
