JOB SUMMARY:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate or Postdoctoral Research Associate Senior will join the PI's efforts in understanding virus-host interactions with a focus on cell entry of HIV-1, SARS-CoV-2, or RSV. The position will perform in vitro experiments and/or computation and contribute to the laboratory research program. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will organize, design, and perform experiments utilizing molecular biology, cell biology, virology, biophysical, and biochemical techniques or assays. The position will perform experiments in the laboratory, likely including mammalian cell cultures, generation of plasmid and viral vectors, transfections, neutralization, western blotting, molecular cloning, ligand-binding, fluorescent imaging, structural characterization of membrane-bound or soluble viral proteins, preparation of extracellular vesicles, and protein purification. The Postdoctoral Research Associate role will be filled according to the education, technical skills, direct relevant research experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate. This position may require work beyond normal working hours, including weekends.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
• Design and conduct experiments in biomedical research related to virus-host interactions.
• Collect and analyze data.
• Publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Prepare abstracts, manuscripts for publication, and written reports of research, grant proposals, grant reports independently.
• Make scientific presentations and perform other work-related duties, as assigned.
• Run assays such as molecular cloning, Western Blots, qPCR, Flow Cytometry, ELISA, biomedical imaging, protein purifications, infectivity, neutralization, etc.
• Generate plasmids and viral vectors and perform virus transmissibility/evasion studies.
• Collaborate with other lab members and prioritize job duties according to the needs of the lab.
• Maintain lab notebooks and records, supplies, and samples in a well-organized and accurate manner.
• Attend scientific conferences at the discretion of the PI.
• Activities include performing all necessary biochemical, biophysical, molecular, virology, structural biology, and cell biology techniques to conduct the research.
• Responsible for daily record keeping and completing data analysis.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

ACCOMPANYING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills.

Familiarity with initiating and maintaining mammalian cell cultures, virus infectivity/neutralization, lentiviral packaging technologies, generation of stable cell lines, and protein structural dynamics.

Knowledge of lab skills including tissue culture, western blots, qPCR/RT-PCR, cell sorting/FACS, ELISA, SPR, protein purification, fluorescent microscopy, ELISA, lentiviral packaging, co-IP, etc.

Demonstrates excellent lab knowledge, adaptability, decision-making, problem-solving, informing, and communication skills and positively maintaining professional and lab relationships.

Knowledge about statistical methods and protein biochemistry.

Ability to follow oral instructions and laboratory rules.

Remains accountable and willing to accept supervision and work well with others.

Remains in compliance with all institutional training and code of conduct.

Ability to work independently based on experience.

Knowledge of molecular dynamics simulation and mathematical modeling.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Two (2) years of experience in biomedical research.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE SENIOR

Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Three (3) years of experience in biomedical research, preferably infectious diseases, virology, biochemistry or biophysics.
