Responsibilities include updating patient demographic information, verifying insurance benefits, and obtaining authorization/precertification as needed. Responsibilities also include determining and notifying patients in advance of upfront collections.

Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • One year of previous experience in hospital insurance pre-certification is required.
  • Must have the skills necessary to operate the office equipment required to fulfill job duties.
  • Forty-five (45) wpm typing skills required.
  • Registrations Medical terminology and computer experience are beneficial.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Good organizational skills.
  • Knowledgeable of insurance benefits terminology.
Responsibilities:
  • Enters patient's demographic information timely and accurately.
  • Verifies patient's insurance.
  • Obtains precertification and authorization numbers for scheduled procedures.
  • Works closely with surgery scheduler.
  • Informs patients of their benefits and any upfront collections.
  • Supports hospital and department policies, Department Director, and hospital Administration.
  • Lends knowledge and assistance to other hospital departments, physicians office and co-workers.
  • Communicates effectively and expresses ideas clearly; actively listens and follows appropriate communication channels.
  • Direction and assistance provided to patients, family members, and co-workers are always courteous and positive. Communicates professionally at all times.
  • Knows and adheres to hospital and departmental policies. Is adaptable and cooperates with changes in assignments, procedures, and personnel.
  • Maintains skills on equipment necessary to complete required responsibilities. Uses supplies and equipment properly and economically and reports necessary repairs promptly.
  • Reflects professionalism in performing duty and knowledge of procedures necessary to produce the desired effect.
  • Notifies physician offices of any unauthorized procedures promptly.
  • Participate in the USPI EDGE program.
  • As assigned by the Business Office Director.
  • Notifies the Business Office Director promptly of issues/concerns.
