Pre K Auxiliary Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  2. Must possess a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and one of the following:
    1. Minimum of an Associate's Degree or
    2. 60 college credits from an accredited college or university, or
    3. An appropriate score on the ACT WorkKeys Paraprofessional Assessment Tests to meet the required federal standards under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
  3. Must possess a Child Development Associate credential/or appropriate coursework in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development (9-12 hours in child development/ECE/or appropriate other coursework.
  4. Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
  5. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

REPORTS TO: Teacher and Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB GOAL: To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assist in using the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool and the OSR Frist Class Framework to inform and guide instruction.
  2. Assist the lead teacher on GOLD observations and documentation.
  3. Assist the lead teacher by modeling cooperation and collaboration throughout the day.
  4. Alerts the lead teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  5. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of professionally certified teachers.
  6. Participates in parental involvement activities.
  7. Participates in professional development associated with the First Class program and as assigned.
  8. Other duties as assigned by regular classroom teacher.

Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment and using pertinent software applications.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

ABILITY is required to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively, schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Problem solving with equipment is moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses. Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work day shall be established by the building principal but shall not exceed 7.5 hours per day, excluding 1/2 hour for a duty free lunch, unless other arrangements are made by the supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a nine-month position (187 days). Salary range is according to the board approved salary schedule.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Support Personnel.
