Base Salary: $22,440 (per First Class Pre-K Program Guidelines)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Goals:
  • To provide assistance to teacher(s) in the delivery of instruction for students.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must possess a Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or at least nine credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution.
  3. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and peers.
  5. Knowledge of current instructional strategies to assist students.
  6. Knowledge of emergency procedures and safety rules.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  8. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
  9. Physical strength, emotional ability, and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced work environment.
  10. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  11. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  12. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  2. Performs academic, physical, and/or computer tasks under the supervision of a certified teacher as assigned.
  3. Works with small groups of students to reinforce and to re-teach, when necessary, material and/or activities initially introduced by the teacher(s) as assigned.
  4. Works with individual students who need individual attention as assigned.
  5. Assists in the diagnosis of student academic problems and assists teachers in remediation.
  6. Assists in the guidance of independent study, enrichment work, remedial help, and follow-up work as specified by the teacher(s).
  7. Assists teacher(s) by checking student notebooks, computer work, physical education activities, and daily written/oral assignments as directed.
  8. Assists with routine classroom clerical and housekeeping duties; assists in setting up classroom, inventory, and orders supplies as assigned.
  9. Assists with preparation of instructional aids, bulletin boards, learning displays, and learning activities.
  10. Assists with non-instructional classroom duties such as snacks, breaks, personal hygiene/clothing needs, and other duties as directed.
  11. Sets up and stores technological and other audio-visual equipment for classroom use as assigned.
  12. Assists in the supervision of students during lunch periods, assemblies, physical education, off-campus excursions, and testing as assigned.
  13. Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, in-service, and staff development activities as required or assigned.
  14. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  15. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  16. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  17. Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
  18. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  19. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  20. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  21. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
  22. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
  23. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  24. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  25. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the principal.

Terms of Employment/Salary: As established by the Board and applicable state law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
