Molex is seeking a Principal Optical Systems Engineer to join our Optical Systems Business Unit. In this role, the successful candidate will be part of a world-class engineering team, contributing to the design and development of next generation coherent and PAM4 optical transceivers. The engineer will have responsibility for the definition, characterization and optimization of coherent and PAM4 transceivers in various application environments. Consequently, the engineer will also understand the coherent and PAM4 transmission systems and associated sub-systems and components. The engineer will be making tradeoffs between optical and electrical parameters to optimize the transceiver performance in the specific application environment. The Optical Systems Engineer will be a key technical interface with customers, critical suppliers and a variety of internal partners such as product marketing and test development. This is a hands-on role requiring a unique blend of experimental and simulation capabilities coupled with a strong knowledge of advanced transmission systems. Some travel is expected in this role.

What You Will Do
  • Contribute to the definition of the product requirements based on the customer's technical specifications and relevant industry standards
  • Characterization, simulation, specification and selection of critical components such as DSP and COSA
  • Characterization and optimization of transceiver performance in the application environment
  • Development of calibration and control algorithms to optimize system level performance
  • Development of methodology and requirement for production test
  • Perform validation testing to verify transceiver performance against the product requirements
  • Support the product qualification in areas such as data analysis, debugging and yield improvement
  • Support key design-in activities, such as debugging and troubleshooting of issues raised by customers

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related field
  • At least 4 years of experience in optical engineering
  • Fundamental understanding of coherent and PAM4 optical communication systems, and DWDM transmission systems and signal analysis and processing
  • Hands-on experience working with system-level optical communication hardware and components
  • Knowledge of the operation and functionality of critical electrical (e.g. DSP, TIA and driver) and optical (e.g. Mach Zehnder modulator, laser, PIC) components
  • Experienced with characterizing high-speed opto-electronic components
  • Experienced with optical and electrical test methodologies, control of measurement equipment and data acquisition
  • Experienced with optical link simulations using tools such as VPI
  • Programming experience in Matlab, Python, VB.net, or C desired
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE, OIF, OpenROADM, etc.

For this role, we anticipate paying $240,000 - $270,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
