Principal Technical Manager, Upstream Oil and Gas Company HSB Solomon Location Houston , United States

HSB Solomon Associates LLC, a subsidiary of Hartford Steam Boiler and Munich Re, is seeking candidates for a Technical Manager - Upstream Oil and Gas position to work in a dynamic, fast-paced business environment. BASIC FUNCTION

The Upstream Oil and Gas Production Principal Technical Manager provides technical input to Solomon's Upstream benchmarking and consulting projects. The Technical Manager will provide Upstream Oil and Gas operational industry expertise and be able to analyze production operations data to provide business insights. This role will have knowledge of current industry operational trends and be comfortable working with production technical data and interfacing with clients at multiple levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Upstream Oil & Gas Technical Roadmap
  • Responsible for stewarding the technical roadmap of Solomon's industry leading upstream production benchmarking studies to enable long-term market growth and business objectives.
  • Owns and leads enhancement for upstream benchmarking analyses (Solomon's Onshore Study and Offshore Study), technical scope, benchmarking methodology & calculations, and study insight generation.
  • Execution of upstream production benchmarking studies. Interfacing with clients and internal stakeholders to provide client business value.
  • Planning and execution of upstream oil and gas consulting projects.
  • Ensuring the technical quality and value to client of upstream performance improvement products.

Industry Trends & Market Intelligence
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of industry trends and key client initiatives and applying that market intelligence to evolve the benchmarking and consulting offerings.
  • Conceptualizes, defines, and implements changes to study scope, metrics, and deliverables to address current and future industry challenges.
  • Increases client value by expanding and deepening the insights that clients receive from study participation.

Application of New Technologies & Analytical Methodologies
  • Responsible for applying new technologies and analytical methodologies to uncover new classes of insights from Solomon's intellectual property and databases. This mandate includes, but is not limited to, new insights pertaining to sustainability for the Upstream Oil and Gas industry.
  • Responsible for defining infrastructure improvements that increase the efficiency of both client study participation and Solomon study execution, as well as reducing the effort required to obtain meaningful performance insights.

Internal Collaboration
  • Proactively collaborate with the relevant Benchmarking Study Managers, Benchmarking Product Manager, Executive Vice President of Intellectual Property, and Technology Team in coordinating technical study improvement activities in alignment with company timelines and resource availability

EDUCATION

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

Preferred:
  • Master's degree and/or advanced professional degree preferred (e.g., MBA, PhD, etc.)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • 12+ years of career experience in an oil and gas operating company. and/or energy consulting company
  • 8+ years upstream production operational experience in technical support, production, maintenance, or operational management roles
  • Significant experience with onshore (conventional and unconventional), offshore, and gas production operations gained in site-based roles

Preferred:
  • Career tenure spanning a variety of asset and facility types and maturities
  • Career tenure spanning assignments in multiple countries

  • Excellent data and performance analysis skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Familiar with data analytics methods and tools.
  • Ability to manage complexity by acquiring data from multiple and diverse sources when solving problems; ability to uncover root causes to difficult problems.
  • Ability to cultivate innovation by coming up with useful ideas that are new, better, or unique; introduces new ways of looking at problems.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work products using Solomon documentation standards as appropriate.
  • Ability to mobilize available internal/external resources and orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office® products such as Word, Excel®, and PowerPoint®.
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement and creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful.
  • Hands-on experience with plant operations.
  • Solid understanding of all aspects of oil and gas production, including facilities operations, plant maintenance and reliability, technical support, planning and optimization, and overall field/asset performance.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts into simple business terms.

OTHER
  • Willing to travel approximately 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
  • This position would be based in Solomon's Dallas, Houston, Bahrain, or UK office. Remote US and UK locations will also be considered.
