Primary Responsibilities
The Principal Transportation Project Manager in San Diego plays a significant role in sustaining and elevating HDR's Transportation Program. At HDR, Southern California has been identified as one of the five mega regions in the country in our 2022 Unrivaled Plan. Essential to the focused and strategic development plan for Southern California is realizing and positioning the right resources for the identified leadership roles in the program.
The primary roles and responsibilities of the Principal Transportation Project Manager is to represent and assist HDR in growing the Southern California transportation program through the delivery of several types of project scope and program phases including planning, design and construction of large multi-discipline programs, projects or medium sized projects with a high degree of technical complexity, typically in excess of $20 million fee and involving a large program/project staff. The types of projects include light rail transit, bus rapid transit, heavy rail, and high speed rail. By use of their own relationships and leveraging HDR's resources, this position will pursue and win transportation projects and will be responsible to manage and deliver the projects. In the role of Project Principal Engineering, we'll count on you to:
- Be a member of the San Diego Client Development Team
- Serve as Principal Project Manager on key projects
- Lead, direct, develop and market transportation pursuits in the region
- Coordinate with local transportation program leaders to identify, pursue and deliver transportation programs throughout Southern California.
- Provide oversight of the design and quality assurance processes on transportation projects including plans guidelines and performance specs for bidding.
- Participate and engage technical experts within HDR in support of client development and project pursuits
- Participate and encourage technical expert involvement in industry organizations and functions including presentations and publications
- Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
- Responsible for any project assignment regardless of size, visibility, number of disciplines, technical complexity or number of staff
- Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
- Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
- Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders
- Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
- Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
- Work with the Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
- Implement QA/QC procedures
- Supervise large project staffs and act as mentor for less-experienced Project Managers
- Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 15 years related experience
- A minimum 7 years project management experience
- PE license
- MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be plus)
- Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

- Master's degree
- PMP certification
- 20 years related experience
- A minimum 10 years project management experience
- California PE license
