Senior Product Development Engineer: Roll-Rite, LLC, a leader in the truck equipment manufacturing industry, is looking for a Sr. Product Development Engineer to lead design and integration of Automated Tarp System Product Lines.

Location: Gladwin MI

Job Functions & Responsibilities: Responsible for research & development activities concerned with the specification, design, testing, and installation of Automated Tarp Systems. Scope of product development spans concept development through product roll-out, service, and warranty, and product end of life disposition.
  • Product Development, Design, and Testing of Automated Tarp Systems
  • Develop System Requirements and system functional modes based on end user application needs
  • Develop and maintain relationship with customer external value chain including management, engineering, integration, and end-customers
  • Support cross-functional team based approach to system level design optimization
  • Design and Release Using 3D Solid Modeling CAD
  • Maintain design records, assets, and repositories
  • Benchmark competitive products and applications
  • Maintain product technical literature

Requirements

Requirements:
  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent. Advanced degree/research in related fields a plus.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in Product Development in Automotive, Commercial Truck, Truck Equipment Manufacturing, Heavy Industrial Machinery, or Equivalent Industrial Applications
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in 3D CAD environment with change control management
  • Minimum 1-3 year experience in product development of a large scale integrated system for commercial truck (e.g. drive axle, powertrain, lift gate, hydraulic applications)
  • Minimum 1-3 year experience in application engineering of an integrated system containing electro-mechanical actuation of components

Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Failure Modes Effects and Analysis (FMEA)
  • Design for Manufacturing and Lean Product Development
  • Team based Structured Problem Solving using 8D or similar process
  • Kinematic of machinery of integrated systems operating with 2+ degrees of freedom.
  • Working level knowledge of torque and power transfer through gears and axles
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems in commercial truck applications
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) supporting design trade-off and optimization
  • Knowledge of industrial sewing or advanced polymer material welding or joining process
  • Knowledge of DC Motor and Motor Control Systems
  • Knowledge and Experience in DC Electrical Distribution Systems in Commercial Vehicle Chassis
  • Knowledge and Experience with ISO, ASTM, and SAE Standards
  • Knowledge of US DOT transportation regulations. Global experience in transportation industry regulations is preferred.
  • Hands on installation and mechanical capability at system level is preferred.


Travel: Up to 30%

Language Skills: Must be fluent in English (verbal and written). With ability to prepare presentations, reports, instructions and articles. Second language a plus.
