The Senior Professional Staff Nurse, a Registered Nurse, is a key care delivery team member. They set care standards, hold responsibility and accountability for nursing care, and manage patient care activities using independent judgment and collaboration. They maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes. Additionally, they demonstrate a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.

Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, OP: $27.78 starting rate
Professional Staff Nurse, OP: $26.84 starting rate
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Responsibilities:
- Professional Development: Continuously improve professional practice and patient care quality.
- Team Collaboration: Actively engage in shared governance, goal setting, and support change processes to enhance care quality and the practice environment.
- Patient Care: Partner with the care team, assist as needed, and adapt to changes.
- Relationship Building: Maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, staff, and patients/families.
- Work Efficiency: Handle multiple priorities and specialized equipment effectively in a complex environment.
- Clinical Judgment: Utilize critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills in patient care.
- Teaching: Apply adult learning principles in educating patients, families, students, and new staff. Provide detailed guidance throughout the care episode.
- Mentorship: Support the development of students, new staff, and colleagues. Foster an environment of open dialogue and continuous improvement.
- Cultural Competence: Understand cultural differences and promote healthy relationships. Balance work and personal life, model safe work hours, and manage time effectively.
- Patient Care Planning: Formulate patient care goals and plans, considering individual needs holistically. Assist physicians with patient care, including assessment, evaluation, and education.
- Communication: Practice solid communication skills, document patient care comprehensively, and promote caregiver communication.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement efforts, identify opportunities for improvement, and take responsibility for enhancing patient satisfaction.
- Research and Evidence-Based Practice: Utilize research to support clinical care improvements and identify relevant research issues.
Qualifications:
Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, OP: $27.78 starting rate
- The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
- They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.,
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience.
- BSN preferred.
- Rating of solid/strong/good or higher on most recent performance evaluation.
- UPMC approved national certification OR master's degree or higher in Nursing required.
- UPMC Professional Contribution required.
Professional Staff Nurse, OP: $26.84 starting rate
- The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
- They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
- Minimum six months experience preferred.
- BSN preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state. - CPR Certification.
- UPMC Professional Contribution required CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Act 34
