Why does the job exist?
This position will supervise District Two's surveying crew, and will manage surveying operations to ensure the Department of Transportation resources are utilized in an effective, efficient manner, and are in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, local laws and regulations and Department policy standards.
How does it get done?
This position will provide oversight, direction, and guidance and will supervise District Two survey crew in performing highway operations such as topographic surveys, boundary surveys, setting control points, setting highway grade control. This position is also responsible for performing research to determine property ownership and highway right of way boundaries. Position will prepare property legal descriptions and Right Of-Way maps utilizing Computer- Aided Drafting (CAD) platforms, research survey data and compile survey computations.

The traveling public as well as NMDOT employees.
Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will have:
* Experience supervising employees
* Experience performing highway survey operations, such as topographic surveys, boundary surveys, setting of control points, setting highway grade control, etc.
* Experience in utilizing GPS Survey equipment
* Experience performing research to determine property ownership, highway right of way boundaries, etc.
* Experience in preparing property legal descriptions and preparing right of way maps
* Experience utilizing Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) platforms
* Experience researching survey data and information at the Department of Transportation (DOT), Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the County Clerks Offices prior to and during field surveys
Minimum Qualification
Licensed Professional Surveyor in the State of New Mexico with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant surveying experience.
Substitution Table
No substitutions. Must possess required licensure, certification or registration and required number of years of experience
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Reference check and Driver's License Verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results. Registration as a Professional Licensed Surveyor by the New Mexico State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is required.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in field setting in varying weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be available for after-hours call outs on short notice.
