In accordance with the Agreement between Organization of School Administrators and Supervisors (OSAS) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

As a member of the Technology Division's Instructional Solutions team, the Program Supervisor, Educational Technology Specialist is dedicated to empowering educators through effective technology integration. This role is pivotal in integrating technology into the curriculum and classrooms to improve student learning outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, a deep understanding of educational technologies, and the ability to work collaboratively with our teachers and school leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Technology or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in an educational technology role, preferably in a K-12 environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current educational technologies and their practical applications in a classroom setting.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering professional development programs for educators.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogical methods and how they can be enhanced with technology.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with research methodologies and evaluations.
  • Must be technically adept with the ability to rapidly learn new technologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite products, including Teams, SharePoint, OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power Apps, and PowerBI.

Essential Functions:
  • Collaborate with curriculum leaders and teachers to integrate technology into lesson plans and classroom activities, ensuring that it enhances the learning experience for students.
  • Design and deliver professional development sessions tailored to the needs of teachers, focusing on the integration and practical use of classroom technologies.
  • Facilitate workshops, seminars, and in-service training sessions to enhance teacher competencies in using technology effectively.
  • Collaborate with instructional leaders to assess and optimize technology use. This includes participating in curriculum development meetings and identifying challenges and barriers to effective technology use and developing strategies to address them.
  • Conduct research on current and emerging educational technologies to support district-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the implementation of new technologies, including pilot programs or full-scale rollout in collaboration with other technology teams; including preparing detailed reports and recommendations based on findings and user feedback.
  • Work closely with technology teams to ensure hardware and software deployments are aligned with educational goals.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of potential educational technology vendors, evaluating their products and services for quality, educational value, compatibility with existing systems and technology standards, and alignment with district educational goals. This includes developing scope of work for RFPs, analyzing bids, and participating in the selection process.
  • Serve as a point of contact with vendors, managing relationships to ensure ongoing support, training, and troubleshooting. Regularly evaluate vendor performance and the effectiveness of their products in meeting educational objectives, making recommendations for continued use or changes as necessary through Quarterly Step Back meetings with district leadership.
  • Act as a key consultant in the development of new students or specialty programs. Work with department leads, program coordinators, and teachers to identify and implement customized technology solutions that support the specific needs of new student programs. This includes adaptive technologies for special education, STEM tools for science and technology programs, and digital platforms for remote learning initiatives.
  • Provide direct support to educators in technology-related issues; including troubleshooting and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Establish systems for monitoring the effectiveness of technology integration within these programs and gather feedback from participants (students and teachers) for continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to developing policies and strategies for technology use in the district. Participate in strategic planning and decision-making meetings and/or processes to ensure technology investments are aligned with educational goals.
  • Promote digital literacy among students and staff, including the responsible use of technology, online safety, and digital citizenship.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
