In accordance with the agreement between the Organization of School Administrators (O.S.A.S.) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, Article 6.4, Promotion Procedure, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The Program Supervisor plays a crucial role in enhancing the academic experience and literacy outcomes of all K-12 DPSCD students. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Literacy, the Program Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the successful implementation of the Department of Literacy's signature Culture of Literacy Initiatives. The Program Supervisor will also create and manage the social media strategy for the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, promoting literacy programs and engaging with the community. In addition to program management, the Supervisor will collaborate with the Department of Literacy team to coordinate school visits related to grant supervision and assist the Executive Director in submitting grant reports. The ideal candidate will be innovative, possess excellent writing skills, and have a passion for fostering a love of reading among students.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • A valid Michigan Teaching or Admin K-12 certificate or a valid teaching certificate from another state with the intent to apply for and obtain a Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Five years professional experience

Essential Functions:
  • Vision & Strategy: Partner with stakeholders to implement DPSCD's vision for excellent literacy initiatives, ensuring that this vision is shared and lived across DPSCD schools through the Department of Literacy's Signature Culture of Literacy Initiatives in grades K-12, including Rise Up, Read More, Let's Read, Spelling Bee, March is Reading Month, and the Local Authors Panel.
  • Processes & Procedures: Alongside the Executive Director of Literacy collaborate with internal departments, external partners, and grantors to develop and implement standard operating procedures for business processes related to literacy grant requirements and implementation. Monitor grants for compliance with policies established by the Michigan Department of Education, the ISD, Foundations, and DPSCD. Continuously reflect on how systems and processes could be improved, proposing solutions to enhance team efficiency and effectiveness.
  • School Support: Collaborate with the Department of Literacy Leaders to plan school visits related to grant supervision and support the coordination of these visits.
  • Professional Development: Lead Professional Development for Let's Read Tutors, Spelling Bee Coordinators, Local Author's Panel Participants and Trainings for Department Volunteers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:. Serve as the liaison for the Let's Read Program and collaborate with the Family and Community Engagement Team to welcome and train community reading tutors. Develop a Social Media Strategy for the Office of Curriculm and Instruction and manage the Department's Social Media
  • Contracts and Partnerships: Work proactively with vendors and partners to anticipate challenges and develop productive solutions. Hold vendors and partners accountable for results, act as liaison with Partnerships, and ensure grant requirements are met.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure district compliance with all state and federal requirements within the area of responsibility. Collaborate with the ED of K-12 Literacy to forge and sustain partnerships with MDE and Wayne RESA to support DPSCD with on-time and compliant delivery of required reports. Collaborate with the Executive Director of Literacy to submit grant reports.
  • Anti-Racism Commitment: Demonstrate a commitment to antiracism, center racial equity and inclusion, and bring practical solutions to issues of equity and inclusion in schools and on the team. Always maintain confidentiality.
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of K-12 Literacy.
