Leidos has an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) to support Rodent Research (RR) Sustaining and Crew Health Care Systems (CHeCS) Sustaining. In this position the engineer will work on sustaining tasks for CMC hardware and support projects involving the development and certification of spaceflight hardware in support of NASA's International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Human Landing System (HLS), Commercial Programs, and Gateway Programs. They will maintain, repair, research, develop, prepare, deliver, and perform inventory management of flight and non-flight hardware items. The team works with commercial software such as IBM Maximo, Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, and MS SharePoint, in addition to CMC custom software. Support of tests and other activities may be required outside of normal working hours.

US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Clearance are required.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform analytical integration and physical processing activities to support pressurized cargo requirements
  • Perform Maintenance and Operations (M&O) and Sustaining Engineering (SE) functions for the CHeCS and RR hardware systems
  • Develop new hardware, modify, or recertify existing hardware or Commercial-off-the Shelf (COTS) hardware, as needed and to the applicable environment
  • Present briefing material, data, analyses and technical input for status and to support decision making at the various NASA Program reviews, control boards, panels, forums, working groups, and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), including but not limited to International Space Station, Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System programs
  • Represent the Sustaining Engineering department at CMC as a subject matter expert for the RR and CHeCS hardware groups in both internal and external customer meetings
  • Interface and coordinate effectively with subcontractors, customers, and team members to ensure seamless project execution and collaboration
  • Present ongoing and completed work to internal management boards and external customers; provide timely and effective communication regarding status and needs
  • Document and present project and routine work status in business rhythm forums on a weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual basis
  • Manage and support multiple requests and projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with stringent deadlines
  • Manage Requests for Support (RFS) and Manifest Requests (MR), and handle authoring and monitoring of work orders, purchase requests, job plans, non-conformance reports, internal and external customer presentations, designs, and trade studies
  • Perform pre-flight processing, assembly, delivery, and stowage of hardware
  • Monitor inventory levels, tool calibration, and part obsolesce
  • Support the early/on-time delivery of flight and non-flight CHeCS hardware in accordance with Manifest Request (MRs), Request for Support (RFSs)
  • Identify, investigate, resolve, and document flight and ground hardware anomalies
  • Provide technical engineering support and perform steps via work authorizing documents
  • Support hardware development projects to certify, flight-configure, and deliver new hardware for spaceflight
  • Create and maintain project resource-loaded schedules in MS Project Professional
  • Develop basis-of-estimates (BOEs) for new work
  • Read, interpret, and develop engineering drawings to fabricate flight hardware
  • Maintain and uphold the highest standards of quality across all services and processes
  • Develop and document streamlined and efficient workflows in process documents to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Support Rodent Research hardware refurbishment maintenance, preparation, routing and tracking to support RR mission operations
  • Responsible for maintaining all training and certifications required to perform in role

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience; or Associate's Degree plus additional college-level coursework towards related degree and 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient with the engineering drawings process
  • Proficient in reading and implementing requirements from engineering drawings and work orders
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Rodent Research processes
  • A good understanding and working knowledge of the CMC sustained tools and frequently used NASA tools (Maximo, EDCC/JEDII, EDMS, CDS, MIDAS Prime)
  • Experience using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams and customers
  • Strong organizational skills; proactive and clear communicator

Pay Range: Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00
