Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide clinical/psychological services to children, adolescents, and young adults admitted to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Service at Kings County Hospital, and to provide clinical supervision of psychology interns and externs.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, providing diagnostic and therapeutic treatment services for assigned inpatient cases
  • Provide individual and family therapy for assigned inpatient cases and facilitate therapeutic groups on the milieu
  • Monitor and manage the effective implementation of the therapeutic milieu behavioral intervention program
  • Consult with the Behavior Support Team and provide consultation to the team members regarding the implementation of Individual Behavior Plans
  • Conduct psychological evaluations of patients who are appropriately ref rred for evaluation on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Service
  • Provide clinical supervision of individual, family, and group therapy and of psychological assessment to doctoral level trainees
  • Provide consultation to medical students, psychiatry residents, and child psychiatry fellows, as needed, regarding psychotherapy, psychological assessment, behavior management, and treatment planning
  • Provide consultation to treatment teams on the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Service on issues of treatment planning, group psychotherapy, psychological assessment, behavioral management techniques, and individualized behavior plans, as needed
  • May act as the liaison between the clinical service and the onsite DOE school (which provides schooling for the inpatient consumers in the service).
  • May provide didactic training to psychology and psychiatry trainees
  • Maintains focus on key strategic priorities, including patient experience, access to care, increased market share, and improving financial viability


Minimum Qualifications

SPECIAL NOTE # = Additional Requirements for Assignment Level II (Effective September 25, 1998)
A. A Doctoral Degree in clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology, awarded upon completion of a Doctoral Program in Psychology registered by the New York State Department of Education and designated as licensure qualifying; and
B. One additional year of satisfactory full-time experience, either as a Psychologist for the City of New York, or in a supervisory capacity in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology in an approved agency or institution. Employees who complete their Doctoral Degree requirements on or after October 1, 1992 must have at least one year of qualifying experience gained after the completion of all Doctoral Degree requirements; and

* Effective September 25, 1998, appointments to Assignment Level II require 1) a Ph.D. as outlined in A above; and 2) one year of qualifying experience as outlined in B above.
C. License Requirements for Assignment Level II
1. In the New York City Departments of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and
Alcoholism Services, Police and Fire, and those programs functionally transferred to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation from the New York City Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education.
2. In agencies not noted in C. (1.) above, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education within one year of the date of assignment. At the discretion of the appointing agency, the period to obtain the license may be extended for up to six months for employees who fail to obtain the license within one year of their assignment. Once obtained, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
