Quality Assurance Engineer Summary:
This Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for developing/enhancing Quality Assurance aspects in the following areas: Inspection, customer complaints, Internal and External auditing, quality information systems, sub-contractor and internal product quality.
Quality Assurance Essential Functions
Responsible for creating, maintaining and improving inspection methods and procedures in line with customer and quality requirements.
Work with operations inspection supervision to train inspection personnel on inspection procedures.
Determine the appropriate inspection methods to be utilized to meet various customer requirements.
Interface with customers on quality needs and assist is processing, investigating and answering customer complaints.
Toronto site representative for Global Quality Information System. Responsible for collecting site feedback,
prioritizing issues, communicating with Global QIS committee and communicating Toronto needs relating to global quality information system.
Assist in developing yearly internal audit schedule/program.
Lead internal process-approach based audits to the AS9100/ISO9100 standard and follow-up on findings/OFI's
Auditing of department paperwork and process for conformance to all quality requirements.
Lead quality training efforts in plant (administrative and operational teams).
Participate in external customer quality audits.
Day to day presence and enforcement of quality procedures, processes and product quality in each Department.
Provide statistical support to Toronto Quality Assurance and Technical resources.
Toronto site administrative lead on Statistical Process Control (SPC) systems and development. Work in conjunction with department metallurgists and QA to develop/maintain Toronto SPC system.
Calibration system monitoring and assistance, including the eye exam program.
Pyrometry system monitoring and assisting the QA Specialist. Data administration in Gage Pak system.
Support of Green Belt projects as required.
Assist Outside Conversion Department with external quality audits of subcontractors and maintain the Approved Supplier Database
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with internal CARs, and follow-up activities associated with them.
Participate in quality 8D clinics
Maintain ISO9001/AS9100 certifications
Quality approval of furnace surveys
Participate in SOX testing as required.
Qualifications
Competencies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, assertive personality, strong organizational skills, proficient with multi-tasking priorities. Eagerness to work in a fast paced, team oriented, quality oriented, results driven company. Ability to manage high workloads.
Education and Experience
Four year Bachelors degree (preferred) in a Science or Engineering related field. Five or more years of Quality Assurance experience in an industrial metal manufacturing environment is desired, with a working knowledge of aerospace and industrial metals specifications and customer quality requirements.
Experience of the application of statistical techniques to practical engineering problems and product performance is desired. Experience in general databases is desirable.
Special Skills
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. Requires excellent computer skills and easily adaptable to different computer software systems. Expert in Minitab or equivalent statistical software. Ability to extract and interpret statistical data to determine capability.
