Job Description

The Radiology Critical Results Alert Service supports 11 acute care hospitals and 5 post-acute/long-term care facilities across New York City. The Radiology Critical Results Alert Service ("RCRA") provides 24/7 support to NYC Health + Hospitals ("H+H") Radiology Departments. The Radiology Coordinators are responsible for facilitating communication with providers and radiologists for Critical, Significant Abnormal, and Incidental Findings. In addition, the center supports Enterprise Teleradiology service with Cross-Site reading coverage as well as Bi-Directional (facility in-house) requests from various facilities. The coordinators also maintain an extensive provider contact database and Enterprise Radiology Escalation Policies.

Assists the Enterprise-wide radiology department in facilitating communication of critical, significant, abnormal and incidental findings.

Day to day tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Review of radiology worklist queue to ensure all tickets are resolved or in progress.
  • Continuous monitoring of radiology queue and follow up with relevant radiologist.
  • Maintain and update contact database and escalation workbooks.
  • Participate in daily team huddles to address workflow issues, provider concerns, problematic tickets, and updates or changes to service.
  • Provide suggestions on process and workflow improvement.
  • Daily preparation of end of shift email to manager, detailing tickets completed and closed, and number of cross-site, bi-directional, and vRad requests processed.
  • Update of worklist and proper categorization of radiology queue tickets for next shift hand-off.
  • Daily preparation of end of shift escalation report, detailing relevant information on all unresolved tickets. Ensure all ticket requests are communicated within set guidelines and protocols; escalate when needed to maintain SLAs
  • Assists Technologists with Cross-Site interpretation requests for facilities across the System
  • Handle Critical Results Teleradiology (vRad) requests for facilities across by receiving notification of "critical results" and following a specific protocol to expedite communication between care team members, which require immediate response.
  • Assist hospital staff with Bi-Directional requests (Radiologist >Radiologist, Technologist>Radiologist. Provider>Technologist etc.)
  • Use of the EMR (H2O) for view of patient history, orders, and documentation
  • Review exam orders to ensure all required documentation is current, correct patient/study
  • Act as a liaison and coordinator between Radiology and all other departments to ensure the timely care of patients
  • Leverage use of all available technology, which includes internal contact database, AMiON, Epic/H2o, NPI database, enterprise phonebook, and global active directory database.
  • Consistently demonstrates effective communication, both written and verbal, with all departmental and hospital staff
  • Maintain current job knowledge and make suggestions for improvements in patient care process and resources/applications
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required to ensure efficient operation of the department and quality patient care

*This is a 24hr service which includes weekends - Saturdays and Sundays & Holidays

Minimum Qualifications
1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and
2. Six (6) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public, such as processing sales; taking, processing, and delivering orders; obtaining and dispensing information; listening to and resolving customers concerns, problems, and complaints; and/or performing related customer service activities.
