Oversee the development and implementation of varied indoor/outdoor recreational and cultural/educational recreation programs inclusive of park history, youth-based empowerment programs and special events. Responsible for coordinating, implementing and managing these varied programs as well as overseeing programs conducted and programmed by staff, contractual staff and volunteers. Conduct research related to local and regional history, culturally appropriate inclusive recreation programs and current trends in order to coordinate and implement new programs and events; complete assessments of various aspects of programs and operations. Responsible for overall administration, development and promotion activities and managing relationships with one or more outside accrediting, licensing, or funding organization, to enable or enhance specialized recreation program delivery. Hire, supervise and direct staff including writing performance evaluations, issuing counseling forms/disciplinary actions and handling employee complaints/grievances. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed by a Recreation Programs Coordinator through conferences, reports and evaluation of results obtained.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Health and Physical Education or related field; minimum of three (3) years of experience organizing and directing recreational activities.

Equivalencies:
  1. Unrelated Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of related experience
  2. Related Associate's Degree and five (5) years of related experience
  3. Unrelated Associate's Degree and six (6) years of related experience
  4. Graduation from high school/equivalent recognized certification and seven (7) years of related experience.

Necessary Special Requirement: Must obtain First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification within six (6) months of hire.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN/WITH: Working with volunteers and community groups, advisory committees or Friends of Groups (must specify on application); writing grants; cultural, historical, or environmental programming; marketing programs, developing/cultivating inter-agency and community relationships and/or public speaking (must specify on application). Also desirable: Bilingual (English/Spanish/Creole); Valid FL Class B and/ or C CDL Driver's License with Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsements.

Must be able to lift 40 pounds. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.
