The cutting-edge Verstandig\rPavilion is equipped with all-private inpatient rooms and state-of-the-art\rmedical equipment, ensuring an environment that prioritizes excellence in\rpatient care. Each specialized IMC shares a floor with its own Intensive Care\rUnit (ICU), promoting seamless patient throughput between different acuities.

This 28-bed unit has been recognized by the American\rAssociation of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) with a BEACON Award for Excellence\rthrough 2026. Clinical Nurses on S42 provide expert care to acutely ill adults\rthat are waiting for or have recently received a solid organ transplant (liver,\rkidney, pancreas, intestine) or have undergone other hepatobiliary surgeries\r(TACE, liver resection, Whipple). MedStar Georgetown is one of only six centers\rin the United States that perform intestinal transplants and averages over 100 liver\rtransplants per year. At MedStar Georgetown we also perform kidney and pancreas\rtransplants and serve patients regionally, nationally, and internationally.\rAdditional medical diagnoses include end-stage renal disease, end-stage liver\rfailure, hepatitis, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, CHF, and GI\rbleeds. All beds are equipped to provide continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry\rbedside monitoring, and nurses are essential in managing high-risk medications\rand performing in-depth discharge teaching. Nurses work with the\rinterdisciplinary team - including physicians, pharmacists, and nurse\rpractitioners - to deliver intense pre- and post-surgical care that is focused\ron infection prevention and patient education. The nursing team is a highly\reducated and motivated group of professionals that participate in collaborative\rgovernance, achieves certifications, and drives positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • \r
  • Prior Clinical Nursing Experience preferred.
  • \r
  • Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
