Summary

The lab of Dr. Greg Sawyer seeks to recruit a research biomedical engineer who designs and develops biomedical engineering devices, tools and instrumentations.

Position Highlights:


  • Conducts experiments and collaborates with a diverse team to develop novel tools, techniques, and approaches.

  • Develops designs, evaluates fabrication options, and performs statistical modeling for select research projects.

  • Interprets data for patent disclosures, prepares reports and presents analyses to leadership for review.

  • Maintains computer software and servers.

  • Uses the principles of biochemistry to design and develop a diverse range of biological products or processes.

  • The Biomedical Engineer has responsibility to the faculty of the specified program.

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.

  • Responsible for drafting manuscripts and related support activities for the Principal Investigator (PI).



Responsibilities:


  • Independently performs complex research and related support activities including, (a) development and implementation of research projects; (b) preparation of reports and manuscripts, conducting data analysis and (c) presentation of research at scientific meetings.

  • Responsible for the collection, organization, analysis and documentation of data as directed by the overseeing Investigator. Limited degree of supervision is required for the analysis of data and documentation of results.

  • Participates in the planning, implementation, and conduct of research projects in collaboration with the overseeing Investigator. This includes contribution to preparation of grants, progress reports, scientific manuscripts, conducting data analysis and daily management activities.

  • Design, develop, and engineer new devices, software, or systems, document inventions and collect the necessary data for patent disclosures and support patent attorneys in drafting patents of the technologies under the supervision of the PI.

  • Maintains laboratory equipment in a clean and working order, including coordinating instrument standardization documented by written report.

  • Assists in planning and developing engineering research projects within the laboratory under the Investigator's direction.

  • Draft manuscripts and presentations under supervision of the PI. Contributes to the preparation of manuscripts, grants, administrative and research compliance documents as directed by supervisor.

  • Technically responsible for the collection, organization and permanent documentation of data in physical and electronic formats as directed by immediate supervisor.

  • Responsible for data analysis using standardized procedures and protocols and under minimal supervision.



Credentials and Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree in Bioengineering, engineering, Chemistry, Physics required.

    • Candidate with PhD is preferred.


  • Hands-on research experience is required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
