Job Description

OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center is Oklahoma's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center, and one of only 72 NCI-Designated Cancer Centers in the United States. The Health Promotion Research Center is looking for a Research Coordinator to work on a variety of research projects involving survey data collection to understand psychological, social, and contextual influences of adolescents' and young adults' mental health, tobacco use, and other substance use and related outcomes. This position entails serving as the first point of contact for participants at the HPRC. Primary duties include participant recruitment, communicating with study participants, conducting data collection, record keeping, logistics management, data analyses, report preparation, development of study materials (e.g., study consents, protocols, recruitment ads), and more. The Research Coordinator will work directly with the principal investigators as well as with other study personnel and other researchers to accomplish the aims of various study projects. There will also be ample opportunities to contribute to scientific publications and presentations.

Duties:
  • Recruitment and Participant Interfacing. Works directly with study participants. Tracks and identifies individuals who click on study ads and are potentially eligible to participate in research studies. Recruits and engages in the informed consent process with participants. Contacts interested individuals over email and the phone. Follows-up with active participants as needed.
  • Data Collection. Collects various forms of data (e.g., online surveys, phone screening questionnaires, smartphone-based questionnaires) pertaining to online and smartphone-based research projects. Assists participants with questions/difficulties completing online or phone-based surveys.
  • Data Management. Meticulously executes study protocols for data collection and management. Adheres to established procedures for data security and confidentiality. Maintains study databases and project documentation with organization and accuracy. Maintains clear, concise, and consistent logs of reported issues and work performed.
  • Logistics Management. Mails participant mail study materials. Calls and emails participants as needed for study communications.
  • Record Keeping. Meticulously follows study protocols. Maintains clear, concise, and consistent logs of reported issues and work performed.
  • Research. Conducts research to include but not limited to Mobile Health research, psychology research and cancer-related research.
  • Data Analysis. Conducts data analysis, interprets data, draws conclusion and discusses data analyses with principal investigator.
  • Report Preparation. Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication. Prepares timely reports of potential adverse events and relays information to the appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Collaboration. Assists the study team in refining online and phone-based surveys. Collaborates with research team members and assists with coordination, preparation, and documentation of project-related meetings as needed. Manages collaboration with vendors for project-related tasks.
  • Material Presentation. Presents study updates and other research materials to the principal investigator, other team members, and at local and national conferences.
  • As Needed. Conducts literature reviews for planned and ongoing studies as requested. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. Assists with development of PowerPoint presentations and formatting for manuscript development.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND:
  • 24 months research or laboratory experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months combined research assistant/technician experience.

Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Working knowledge of how to safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials or chemicals following Federal, State and University guidelines.

Working Conditions:
