Who We Are:

The Materials Science and Failure Analysis Section develops solutions for complex materials problems using experimental and analytical methods. We serve government and commercial sponsors across a variety of technical sectors.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Perform analyses using integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) and Machine Learning (ML) concepts and tools at multiple length scales on a variety of material systems.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently to develop solutions to address material challenges of clients in a range of technical areas, including alloy discovery/synthesis and environmentally assisted damage mechanisms.
  • Apply first principles materials science knowledge to understand and interpret material-environment interaction.
  • Apply strong foundational understanding of material processing as related to mechanical properties.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Use and develop advanced computational techniques and tools to model the process-structure-properties relationships of materials at multiple length scales.
  • Work under the guidance of senior staff to develop proposals for individual and collaborative research projects.
  • Interact with project colleagues, commercial and government clients; present findings in reports and technical papers.


Requirements:

  • Requires a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field.
  • 0-2 years: Experience with physics-informed materials development/design, including creation of novel databases and algorithms
  • 0-2 years: Experience using CALPHAD and Thermo-Calc applied to materials design manufacturing problems.
  • 0-2 years: Familiarity with applying computational tools to material synthesis methods such as additive manufacturing (AM) and physical vapor deposition (PVD)
  • Experience with CAD and Solidworks is desired but not required.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
