Position Purpose:
Leads the management of grant activities, including proactively informing faculty of relevant funding opportunities, offering expert guidance in proposal development, and providing comprehensive support in the financial oversight of awarded projects. Partners with the Office of Sponsored Projects and the Dean of Faculty Fiscal Office to ensure strategic alignment and compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements, while independently resolving complex issues as they arise.

Description:
The Arts & Sciences at Dartmouth College seeks a skilled and experienced research administrator to lead the administrative management of grant activities for a large and complex department in the Science division. This role includes informing faculty of relevant funding opportunities, managing the proposal development process, and overseeing the financial and effort management of awarded projects. The successful candidate will serve as an advisor to faculty on grant submissions, offering insights to maximize funding potential and project success. This position involves pre-award proposal and budget development, post-award financial management and reporting, effort administration and compliance responsibilities,resolving complex and sensitive issues as they arise, as well as facilitating close collaboration with the Office of Sponsored Projects and the Dean of Faculty Fiscal Office,

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp: Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Four years experience in the full range of grant and contract management and accounting in an educational setting.

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, science or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Well developed verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to interpret and apply research administration and accounting policies and procedures.

• Well developed organizational skills and ability to independently take initiative, balance competing demands & deadlines, and make decisions under pressure.

• Self-starter who can work independently or in teams with a variety of academic and administrative colleagues.

• Must be able to work with multiple PI's under deadline pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:
CRA , CPRA or CFRA certifications or the equivalent

Key Accountabilities

Description:
Pre-Award Administration
Proposal Preparation: Assist faculty and senior research staff in developing and submitting proposals to external funding sources, ensuring compliance with both sponsor and College policies.

Budget Development - Develops budget proposals including collaborating with PIs to ensure budget aligns with project's goals and objectives, estimating costs and allocating funds to budget categories.

Compliance Risk Management: Address commitment and budgetary overlap issues to minimize compliance risks.

Proposal Routing and Approval: Facilitate the College's proposal routing and approval process, resolving submission-related issues during both internal and agency reviews.

Description:
Post-Award Administration
Financial Management: Collaborate with OSP to assist faculty in managing the financial aspects of sponsored projects, including monitoring allowable expenses and avoiding cost overruns.

Agreement Compliance: Interpret financial and business terms of sponsored agreements, advising faculty and research staff on adherence to College and agency policies.

Expense Reconciliation: Reconcile grant expenses and revenues, ensuring timely correction of errors.

Financial Projections: Provide faculty with projections of their total research support spending.

Reporting: Assist faculty in preparing necessary internal and external reports to meet compliance requirements.

Description:
Personnel Administration
Supervision: Supervise Grants Management Assistant, including delegating tasks, training on grant compliance, and reconciling.

Personnel/Payroll Oversight: Oversee the personnel and payroll process for research account appointments, including faculty offsets and summer supplements.

Effort Compliance: Manage faculty effort reporting to ensure compliance with research commitments and academic obligations.

Issue Resolution: Collaborate with the Dean's Office and department administration to resolve personnel-related issues, including non-routine situations such as layoffs and disabilities.

Description:
General Administration

Liaison Role: Act as a liaison between PIs, the Dean of Faculty Office, the Office of Sponsored Projects, and other College offices to support the College's research vision.

Grant Management Compliance: Ensure compliance in managing grant projects, interpreting financial terms of sponsored agreements, and advising on policy adherence.

Decision Making: Make decisions on financial and administrative aspects of sponsored projects, including integration of multiple grants and managing budgetary/effort overlaps, which have a significant financial impact on the College.

Resource Role: Serve as a resource for faculty and administrators on grant policies and procedures.

Multi-Department Service: Support multiple departments and programs, requiring knowledge of diverse sponsor and agency requirements.
