Job Summary
The University of Michigan, Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking candidates for a Research Lab Specialist Intermediate position in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated bench scientist to advance medical and scientific knowledge about cardiovascular disease (CVD). The successful candidate will work on NIH funded research projects to investigate CVD using rabbit models.

The hired individual will execute research projects with the aim of the generation of gene edited rabbit models through microinjection and embryo transfer. Working under general supervision, the Research Lab Specialist is expected to work independently and as part of a team.

Background Screening

Responsibilities*
The hired individual will execute research projects with the aim of the generation of gene edited rabbit models through microinjection and embryo transfer. Working under general supervision, the Research Lab Specialist is expected to work independently and as part of a team.
- Generate gene-edited rabbit models through microinjection and embryo transfer, including project design, microinjection, genotyping, and data analysis.
- Utilize techniques such as stem cell injection, cryopreservation, artificial insemination, and rederivation of cryopreserved strains.
- Manage the breeding and pathology analysis of transgenic rabbits. Conduct Western blotting for protein level analysis and real-time PCR for gene expression studies.
- Collaborate with fellow scientists on shared research goals.
- Document work meticulously, including technical reports and presentations, and provide summary updates to management.
- Contribute to the development of new techniques and instruments in the lab.
Required Qualifications*
- A terminal research degree (MS) with a minimum of 5-years research experience in a relevant discipline.
- Extensive experience in transgenic animal production, including embryo micromanipulation.
- Strong background in animal models and physiology.
- Proficiency in nucleic acid chemistry, recombinant DNA techniques, and gene transfer.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively discuss and present research findings.

- Expertise in microinjection and embryo transfer for generating transgenic animal models
- Expertise in cryopreservation, artificial insemination, and rederivation of cryopreserved strains
- Expertise in breeding and pathology analysis of transgenic animals
