Working independently in the laboratory, the employee will carry out extraction of lipids from clinical samples including blood, urine and cerebral spinal fluid and will perform mass spectrometry on lipid extracts. Working together with the Principal Investigator, coordinates the sample workflow, designs research protocols, analyzing data and presenting data in laboratory meetings.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø Extracts lipids from human clinical samples, animal samples and bacterial cells

Ø Profile lipid content and changes using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry

Ø Generates lipidomics data sets for unsupervised comparisons and biomarker discovery

Ø Involved in optimization of protocol

Ø Involved in the coordination of all regulatory and compliance activities for the experiment

Ø Carries out research projects on the role of bacterial lipids in pathogenesi

Ø Reports on work in progress at weekly seminars and interprets experiment results in conference with other researcher

Ø Responsible for quality control and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including the education of colleagues to improve cost efficiency

Ø Responsible for the continual maintenance and updating of the laboratory's lipid bank and cell bank

Ø Contributes to scientific literature

Ø Attends regular meetings of the Principal Investigators to discuss improvements on the general operation of the laboratory and acts upon decisions made.

Ø Assists in the generation of graphics and illustrations for publications and presentations.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Ø Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts

Ø Relevant laboratory experience as can be learned in core lab courses in college

Ø Willingness to work with infectious and biohazardous material

Ø Must possess the ability to work independently

Ø Must have sound interpersonal skills

Ø Must possess strong analytical skills and conceptual thinking

Ø Excellent oral and written communication skill

Ø Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadline

Ø High degree of computer literacy

Ø Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subject rights and individual need

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal laboratory working conditions, including biosafety cabinets and practice of universal precautions.
