The Research Scientist independently interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research assignments and projects. The incumbent formulates and conducts research on unique, cutting edge, and complex topics in the field of substance use disorders. The incumbent explores subject area with the aim of defining the scope, method of execution, and method of measurement to determine and analyze project success/outcome.
Responsibilities include:
Provides scientific and technical leadership and consultation to co-workers and staff. Applies diversified knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols in research project.
Collaborates with staff and investigators on design, analysis, application, and reporting of research results.
Develops research/scientific model concepts.
Prepares grant proposals to obtain research funding.
Maintains current and state-of-the-art-technical equipment and systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education: Ph.D. and four years experience in basic substance use disorder research, postdoctoral experience required and five years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Education & Experience:
Ph.D. and four years Postdoctoral experience in basic substance use disorder research, or Masters and five years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
*Ability to operate complex laboratory equipment
*Ability to collaborate with colleagues on research initiatives
*Working knowledge of all applicable computer software programs
*Management skills (including planning and communication skills).
*Knowledge of applicable professional principles, extensive knowledge of University policies and procedures, and financial and budgeting principles
*Demonstrated proficiency in research field
