Conducts research initiated by the faculty Principal Investigator of the research group. Performs highly specialized laboratory work and technical analysis. Requires significant scientific judgement and advanced academic qualifications. Implements the use of highly sophisticated scientific equipment, programs and instrumentation. Performs both in vitro and in vivo studies in cultured neural cells and experimental mouse/rat vascular dementia and traumatic brain injury (TBI) models. Performs molecular biological studies, behavior testing, delivery of various pharmacological drugs, cardiac perfusion, and brain section preparation. Conducts morphological analysis using immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent staining and stereology. Supervises and instructs lab colleagues on lab routine studies. Prepares figures and statistical analysis for review and use in journal articles and poster presentations. Participate in maintenance of lab experimental equipment and managing documents with IACUC, DLAR, IBC and EH&S offices. Maintains animal colonies, animal breeding and performs genotyping if needed. Requires PhD and over six years of relevant experience.
