Job Summary:
This position is in the laboratory of Dr. Raghu Vemuganti, Professor and Vice-Chair for Basic Research, Department of Neurological Surgery, University of Wisconsin-Madison. The main focus of the lab is to explore the roles of epigenetics, epitranscriptomics, and noncoding RNAs (microRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs) in acute brain injury models of stroke and brain trauma. The lab is supported by several federally funded (NIH and VA) grants.

The successful applicant will be an energetic, self-directed learner with strong organizational skills and a keen interest in the lab's research. The position provides an excellent opportunity to further develop research skills in neuroscience and molecular biology and to learn about the neuroscience of animal behavior. The position will assist the principal investigator in managing routine lab activities and conducting multidisciplinary research for acute brain injury (Stroke and TBI).
Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 20% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 10% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:
Preferred Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or related fields.
Qualifications:
-Previous research experience preferred.
-Ability to work with animals.
-Demonstrated ability to follow general lab practices.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills and spreadsheet software skills are essential.
-Willingness to be trained and to take on additional responsibilities to conduct experiments and general lab maintenance.
-The applicant is expected to work cooperatively and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration:
Terminal, 12 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
Salary:
Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
