Job Summary:
This is an opportunity to join a well-established, collaborative lab in the Department of Dermatology to investigate mechanisms of vascular anomalies during development. This position will support current research projects through conducting research using established protocols under the direction of senior staff, as well as participates in common laboratory maintenance activities. This is a great opportunity for entry-level technicians as well as individuals interested in pursuing a graduate education in the biological sciences. The successful candidate should have excellent problem-solving skills, flexibility, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 60% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 10% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 10% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:
Preferred
Bachelor's Degreein Biological Sciences or relevant field, with a degree or focus in animal science, biology, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, or biomedical engineering strongly preferred
Qualifications:
Required Experience: Previous experience with molecular biology and/or cell culture techniques
preferred, but only a desire to learn is required. Must be willing to work with experimental animals
(mice).

Preferred Experience: The ideal applicant will have some experience with or background knowledge of common molecular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, RNA/DNA isolation, PCR/qPCR, western blotting, and/or immunostaining. Experience reading scientific literature and/or writing reports is desired.

Additionally, familiarity with Windows-based operating system along with Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, ImageJ, and/or Endnote is desired.
